continuation of day in Goslar

In the morning while it was raining we drove around Goslar a bit.  Many of the streets are very narrow.   I was trying to navigate.  I kept seeing an arrow for a main street and directing Norbert toward it but we never seemed to reach it.   I finally mentioned the name to Norbert.

Those who know German are already laughing.   Einbahnstrasse is not the name of a street.  It means One Way Street!

We eventually parked in a lot next to the Emperor's Palace from when Goslar was part of the Holy Roman Empire.

Emperor's Palace - Home of Barbarossa (Red Beard) and others

Breides Tor - One of the city entrance gates.  Walls are  10 ft thick and 30 feet high.  Never breached.  Not much left of them now.

I am so glad we visited in 1973.   The city was still in it's old state.  It is still mainly only visited by German tourists.  but....

An arcade right in the middle of one of the old streets

Another church and Tower

This is the Marktkirche with only 217 steps to the tower which is nothing after the one in Munich!

This church is the main denomination in Germany - Evengelical -Lutheran

 The Tower

View from the tower

What goes up must come down - 217 steps again!

Many of the houses in Goslar are made of slate

We returned to our host for a fire in the fireplace, good conversation,  and writing this...

stay tuned...
